Mairi Campbell and Dave Francis are the multi-talented Scottish duo known as The Cast, who came into being when they joined forces after meeting each other in the burgeoning traditional music and dance scenes in Edinburgh. The Cast have performed extensively throughout the UK and Ireland, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Italy and North America.
The Cast are regular broadcasters on BBC Radio Scotland, performing live and in recorded sessions and have performed on radio and TV in Scotland, England, Spain, Germany and the USA. In 1999 The Cast performed their classic rendition of 'Auld Lang Syne', as recorded on 'The Winnowing', on the US TV soecial 'Kennedy Center Honors'. The programme honoured fellow Scot Sean Connery and among the many prestigious guests attending the annual holiday event were the The President and Mrs. Clinton.
When interviewed by the Independent Newspaper in 2005 and asked 'What's on your playlist?', Sean Connery chose 'Auld Lang Syne' by The Cast (from their album "The Winnowing") as his No. 3, commenting:
"Obviously there are many versions of this song but I find this one very beautiful, a well thought-out version."

The Cast have a deep love of traditional music of all kinds but reserve a particular place for the work of Robert Burns, the fiddle music of Scotland and Scotland's rich ballad heritage. The duo has now also added songwriting and tune composition thus adding another string to their bow. Mairi and Dave are polished, relaxed and engaging performers, with a deep knowledge of their material and its sources.
