Simon Fraser University Pipe Band
"the dedicated musicians who are the SFU Pipe Band have, like the travelling musicians of old, taken their show on the road... The SFU Pipe Band has married ancient tradition with a modern movement, and has given pipe band music a place on the great stages of the world" - a review of the SFU Pipe Band album "Down Under: Live at The Sydney Opera House".
Sydney, Australia is where the SFU Pipe Band last recorded on its musical journey. Later that year, the Band won its fourth World Pipe Band Championship title, and since then has been 2nd twice and 3rd once. In 2004 the SFU drum corps won the World drumming title for the 2nd time. In 2002, the band's highly successful concert tours included Vancouver, Glasgow and Belfast, and in 2003 Halifax, Toronto and Worcester, MA.
Through all this, the SFU Pipe Band has proudly represtented the University after which it was named. 2005 is the Simon Fraser University's 40th anniversary, and for the last 25 years the SFU Pipe Band has represented the University and its quest for excellence in many parts of the world. In this 40th anniversary year the band are proud to release "On Home Ground" as a tribute to the University.
