Go West, young man! used to be the best advice, but now it’s decidedly - Go East! Shooglenifty have produced their own album with a distinctly eastern slant, carving their groove along that popular trail towards the tones and accents of far eastern Europe and beyond. The undulating charms of that eponymous young lady are easily brought to mind by her tune, with haremic riffs and suggestive key signature! The exoticism continues through A Fistful Of Euros, with many enriched continental accents. And then - Glenuig Hall - well, okay, they are a Scottish Band! Their previous experience at marrying together folk music and contemporary groove provides an ideal background for the work on this album, which also includes such generic gems as Fit ’re Ye Dain’ Up Ma Vennel? Then the gently sweeping melody of Carboni’s Farewell is in sharp contrast to The Nordal Rumba, with guesting horn section from Salsa Celtica. Many influences, many styles, but all tied by the groups’ neat musicianship and sure-footed styling.
