Martin Hayes

Hayes' fiddle playing brings out the hidden colour and nuances of Irish music. His economical, unhurried style explored the intricacies of a tune with elegance and subtlety - and he appreciates the link between melodic simplicity and letting the melody sing. Martin Hayes is a perfect example of a musician who brings his beloved traditional music into the nineties. This is Martin's first solo album. Martin's style of fiddle playing comes directly from the older generation of musicians in his locality, a part of Ireland known for it's slow, lyrical sound. He began with a desire to capture the styling and rhythm of the tunes as played by the old people and, where appropriate, to enhance them with his own personal interpretation.
