Pipe Major Donald Macleod was not only a fine a player, but also a very painstaking teacher. In his Piobaireachd series he plays the practice chanter to illustrate the tunes and gives verbal instructions and canntaireachd, the chant formulated to help pipe players learn a tune.
Donald Macleod Macleod was also a prolific composer and arranger, writing some very popular pipe tunes and adding variations to other traditional tunes. Your can hear many of his tunes played regularily today including pipe jig favourites 'The Duck', 'The Sea-gull' and 'Rory MacLeod' or the ever popular 6/8 pipe March 'Dr Ross's 50th Welcome to the Argyllshire Gathering' to mention but a few.
