A L Lloyd

Nineteen grand old songs with traceable histories dating back as far as the fifteenth century. The songs are sung here by A. L. Lloyd, whose wide experience of life helped him keep the songs in context - as songs of the folk, not arty-farty flounces. Lloyd recorded these songs in 1960, with Alf Edwards accompanying some tracks on English concertina. The songs words are from the Penguin Book Of English Folk Songs. Excellent recording quality, informative sleeve notes, and Lloyd’s tuneful but not too cultured voice make this a disc to treasure.
