Ceilidh Venue Considerations

- When booking your event, always view the room where the reception will be held.

- It is best to have a room with permanent dance floor. Temporary dance floors (made of small blocks locked together) have a tendency to break up during the more strenuous dances.

- Try to imagine the number of guests who may be on the dance floor at any given time. Normally you would expect around 40-70% of your guests on the dance floor at any point in time. Set dances such as the Dashing White Sergeant and Strip the Willow do require a bit of space!

- A rectangular or square room with integral bar is best. You may find that guests tend to disappear to have a chin wag L-shaped function rooms or rooms with the bar in a separate room. Better to have one rectangular room with integral bar where guests can stand and watch and hopefully be encouraged to join in!

- If you plan to have a disco as well as Scottish dancing it is often better to have the Scottish dancing first and then follow with the disco rather than alternate the two. This is because the Scottish dancing builds up throughout the evening and having breaks usually interrupts the momentum.
